Since 1997, Rex has published The Grapevine Press– Pride of Cucamonga.

With the Grapevine Press, Rex offered uplifting, yet candid news to the people of Rancho Cucamonga and surrounding cities. His community information was designed to instill a sense of community and history in the hearts of all residents of the Cucamonga Valley.

The Grapevine Press has a  proud record of defending those who could not defend themselves! The publication believed Mark Twain’s old adage to never pick a fight with a man who buys his ink by the barrel.  With the voice of The Grapevine Press, Rex defended senior citizens against government overreach. His outcry shamed unscrupulous actors into righting many wrongs against the common people. Rex, through the voice of The Grapevine, fixed broken sidewalks, installed stop signs on dangerous corners, got stray animals adopted, and generally gave hope to the lost, the last, and the least. All politics is local, and Rex and The Grapevine Press spent countless hours walking the streets to stay close to the people. As a councilman, Rex went door-to-door listening to the people’s concerns. He walked his city three times. As Editor and Publisher of The Grapevine Press, Rex continued that tradition. In that sense, he is a true populist. Borrowing from the classic Citizen Kane, Rex adopted this statement as The Grapevine Press Declaration of Principles:

I will provide the people of this city with a publication that will tell all the news honestly. I will also provide them with a fighting and tireless champion of their rights as citizens, and as human beings. I am nobody’s yes man, and I believe that tough times never last, but tough people do. Lastly, it’s not how many positions you hold; it’s how many people you help.
